There are many old letters, contracts and a charter, originals of which are kept in various places. We will attempt to collect some of these in transcribed form and put them in this section of our website.

Some transcribed old documents can be found in the list on the left. Others are listed below.

Murray Family Papers

The National Archives maintain a set of original, and in some cases transcribed copies of, various Murray Family of Broughton and Cally papers between 1410 and 1978.  There are about 1000 documents including correspondence, legal papers, rentals, surveys etc. The Murray Family owned estates in Co. Donegal in Ireland, at Broughton in Wigtownshire and at Cally in Kirkcudbrightshire

Probably during the 1970s, someone had access to a number of these documents and typed their contents onto foolscap pages, double-sided. In some cases the original documents may have been difficult to read accurately, and also the transcriber may have made spelling mistakes. We have now re-transcribed a number of these typed documents and make them available here for anyone to access and search. We could also have made transcription errors !!
